2012, wow, what a ridiculous ride of ups and downs, and I am not one for roller coasters. (See previous posts)
2012 leapt off of the page with joy in the fact that Adam & I had successfully had our first ever Christmas on land in our own place. From a 10x20 cube with a tree that could fit in a backpack to our 2 bedroom cozy apartment with our first ever real tree, it was an awesome holiday. Adam got to try Mom's chowder for the first time, (and thankfully is content with one serving) and he experienced a full fledged Dlouhy Christmas...which still astounds me each year.
The Ferrett side saw their share of joy and sorrow within a few months, with first losing Nan in February after an amazing 93 years, to the joy of our new nephew Ethan William coming on what day of all days? My birthday! Ethan was only with us a short time, and although we never had the pleasure of holding him ourselves, that little man will be celebrated and remembered for the impact he had on us for those 8 weeks.
I was able to build a team of strong women around me through my business, and continue to throw caution into the wind and build the life I imagine with Adam one shampoo at a time. LOL Seriously, if you still don't know what I do, it's because I haven't been brave enough to ask you, but rest assured, I will.
After months and months of pounding the pavement, (literally at one point) Adam got a job with an amazing company and is prepared for big things in 2013 with it. I'll let him tell you about all that, but if anyone needs advice on things I still have no clue about, Adam is your guy.
I changed jobs not once, not twice, but three times by April, and landed a sweet gig with Patterson Dental. While I know this is not my long term future, I'm blessed to have a job that I really don't mind getting up in the morning to go to, and not many people can say that.
Adam & I were reunited with one of our nearest and dearest friends John-Philip Bowen, who really taught me that in the midst of it all to never lose yourself, and that even through darkness there is light, laughter, and egg nog. I think (other than Adam's of course) the hug we had in Niagara was the best one I had in 2012! (I really hope I didn't throw out your back JP!)
We finished 2012 as we had started it, in St. Thomas at my brother's with family, too much food, and just a bit of competition when the game boards came out. We have established some awesome traditions and I really do look forward to hosting a New Years Eve bash when we can fit more than 4 around our table.
I think my biggest lesson of 2012 was truly learning how to dance in the rain from several people who saw great change in their lives this year. Most of all, Jo, Rich & Jasmine who each day find the joy in having Ethan in their lives, and making sure that he is thought of, talked about and remembered with each passing day.
So so long 2012. You brought amazing events and memories with you, and while we must say goodbye to some of them (and are happy to in some cases eg. Dove Dental *dry cough*) we carry most of them with us in our hearts with fondness and eagerness to only see them grow into bigger things to come.
Now then, where's the Tylenol?
